Past Master Sam Craib, the oldest attending member of Lodge St Lawrence 144, was recently awarded the rank of Honorary Grand Almoner of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland. This distinction is only awarded to Masons who are considered to have given outstanding and unselfish service, not only to Freemasonry, but also to the general good of the community they live in. Sam, who has been a member of Lodge St Lawrence since 1952, has acted for many years as the Almoner of his own Lodge, and also as Almoner for the Provincial Grand Lodge of Moray and Nairn. The Almoners duties are defined as, “Seeking out the needy, visiting the sick and administering to their requirements”, duties, which Sam has taken to heart, reflecting credit not only on Masonic charity, but also on Sam’s, own personal compassion. As well as his Masonic commitment, Sam has always been actively involved in the local community; He is an Elder of St Leonard’s Church and has been actively involved in the running of various Pensioners associations. Sam is also a keen gardener and the magic of his "green fingers" can always be found at local flower shows. After the presentation of the award, which was carried out by the Provincial Master of Moray and Nairn , Viv Mclennan, the reigning Master of Lodge St Lawrence, Brian Kerr, conveyed the Lodges congratulations to Sam, and also expressed the Lodge’s pride regarding a Lodge St Lawrence member receiving this prestigious award, the first such award to a Lodge St Lawrence Member on record.
