Text Box: Lodge St Lawrence No. 144

It is with a heavy heart and a feeling of deep loss that we mark the passing of Past Master Sam Craib. Sam epitomised every thing good in Freemasonry. Sam was a member of a large number of Masonic Orders, and took an active part in them all, every one of those Order miss his enthusiasm and friendship and mourn his passing. At Lodge St Lawrence we in particular experience a feeling of overwhelming loss and regret. Sam was ours! He was our Brother, our friend, our spokesman to Provincial and the example we gave to young Freemasons as to what they should aspire too. Sam joined Lodge St Lawrence at the age of 31 on the 4th March 1952. He revelled in Fremasonry and was known and loved in all of the Lodges in the Moray and Nairn Province. Sam filled the Office of† Lodge Treasurer for many years and was Master of the Lodge for its Centenary in 1977 when Sam hosted the Grand Master Mason. As a Past Master Sam continued to be heavily involved in the working of the Lodge, carrying out the duties as Treasurer and latterly as Lodge Almoner. Sam was honoured many times in his Masonic Career, in 2002 Sam was awarded a Distinguished Service Award by the Grand Lodge of Scotland, and in 2004 Sam was made An Honorary Grand Almoner of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, an achievement of which Sam was extremely proud. Our heartfelt sympathy extends to Mary, Maurice, Sandra and Samís Grandchildren.†
